Delay and exit behaviors

Hi there - I have an email triggered once a user enters a segment like this:
Enter Segment -> Delay 3 days > Send email

A couple of questions about this pattern:
1. Will the user exit the segment if any of the criteria becomes invalidated?
2. If the user enters the segment on day 1 and on day 2 exists, will the email be sent?

Hey! Happy to help.

Users are only evaluated when they move from one workflow to another so yes the user would exit a trigger segment if it's a segment-triggered campaign.

For segment-triggered campaigns, we start a journey for People when they meet the trigger conditions (enter/leave segments) - even if they do not meet the filter conditions. When they do not meet the filter conditions they enter a grace period but their journeys will almost always end with the Person falling out before the first message due to not meeting the filters.

To answer your second question, if a goal segment is set, there are 3 options for a segment-triggered campaign depending on your Goal & Exit setting:

  • A user goes through the whole campaign no matter what happens
  • A user exits when the conversion goal is met (the user does whatever action you want them to)
  • A user exits the trigger and/or filter condition and exits the campaign.

If no conversion goal is set, only the first and the third option are possible.
