Image link click tracking?

I know that links in words on emails are tracked in CIO as "clicks." My question is whether or not images are tracked the same way.

For example, instead of the "button" element in your email builder, if we made a custom “button” by uploading an image and adding a link to it, would that be tracked in our click metrics?
