Hi guys,

I’m working on my deliverability, and now I’m focused on understanding suppression.

Question:
1. How suppression works?
2. Is suppression related to delivered email, opened, or bounced?
3. What are your suggestions to lower the suppression rate?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Denver,

Our docs have a good overview on how suppression works: https://customer.io/docs/journeys/esp-suppression/

Your ESP adds an email address to its suppression list when:

  • A message experiences a hard bounce.

This means that either the recipient email address does not exist or the recipient email server blocked delivery.

  • A person lodges a spam complaint against a message.

The best way to reduce your suppression rate is to follow our deliverability best practices(https://customer.io/docs/journeys/email-deliverability-best-practices/#list-health) by maintaining list health.

I hope that these resources are helpful!
