How do you decide which ID option to use?

Hi everyone, 

 

Curious to see how you all have set up your instance of Customer.io so I can better understand how I should set up mine. What are some scenarios where I'd want to use only the Customer.io ID or email as an identifier and not both? Which ID do you all use and why?

Hey Jeff, 

I’d use an id only workspace if my business allows the same person to have different ids with the same email address. For example, if I allow people to create multiple different accounts with the same email address. 

I’d use both an id and email workspace if my business only allows the same person to only create one account per unique email address. The benefit of having both email and id is it allows me to collect leads (who only have an email), and then once they become a paying customer I can assign them an id as well. 

I’d use an email only workspace if my business doesn’t have a concept of id and only uniquely identifies people by their email address.
