Delay link tracking to avoid clicks from spam check bots

Hi,

is it possible to delay the link tracking in customer.io to avoid that the clicks of spam check bots are being counted? Otherwise, the automated tracking reports provided by customer.io become pretty much useless.

Best,
Erik

I don’t know of a way this would work, and of course depending on how you set it up you’d also likely filter out good clicks.

My suggestion is to recognize it, watch data after a broadcast send to get a good idea of what % of clicks may be bots, then couple it with other metrics like email sourced page views. If you’re focused on clicks then you’re also focused on something else further downstream, and you can use that data to validate the emails quality.

@boostmyemail

Thanks a lot for your response!

My idea for delaying the link tracking is to only count clicks, that were made at least 10 seconds after the opening of the email. In my experience, opening time and click time are identical, when the clicks are from a bot. Via csv download, G Sheets etc. I already sort out bots this way manually. But it would be nice if an automated process could cover this, because I can’t handle it this way for every send out. Customer.io should already be a reliable source of truth in this regard. Without any extra effort and a manual workaround.

Best,
Erik
