Background images in Outlook - Cio not injecting support

I’ve been building out a client’s design using the drag & drop builder and I noticed during testing that the system isn’t injecting the necessary MSO code to make background images work in Outlook.

This is perplexing considering the system is injecting the necessary code to ensure buttons can be rounded in Outlook.

Am I missing something or is support just non-existent for bg images with drag & drop rows, right now?

This is easy enough to build out myself in a custom module, but not ideal when the hope is to avoid any code editing by my client’s team.

Hey Niven,

the current email drag&drop editor used by CIO is based on the beefree editor. You can also check out if you can find information on how they handle background images in Outlook in their community.

The code for background images in Outlook is typically VML code. VML can cause accessability errors (as explained in this Litmus article) and thus is not used a lot by many editors (including Stripo, Litmus and apparently also beefree).

If you are considering coding yourself a module, you can also check out Parcel.io. They combine HTML and drag&drop. The Parcel editor is used for in-app messages in CIO already, and you can use Parcel features when building email html code, so my guess is they will introduce the drag&drop editor to email as well.

Hope that helps,

Felix
